An Adopted TROTT Horse
These high quality Thoroughbreds are typically 2-6 years old, and many sold for $60K- $350K as yearling race prospects. Once they retire from an injury, or just from lack of speed, TROTT is there to prepare them for a new life in non-racing homes.
How do we do that? TROTT takes horses straight from the track where they were treated like royalty, and our professional trainers assess each horse’s talents so that the perfect match can be made with a new home. We strive to ensure that each former racehorse in our program is given time to rehabilitate from any injuries, as well as time to learn how to be an everyday pleasure or show horse. For instance, TROTT horses will learn how to be led, bathed, groomed, how to steer at all gaits, stop and slow down, how to go forward and back up, and maybe even more advanced skills such as jumping or trail riding.
All adoption fees are donations, which help to care for the next horse who comes into our program. Our adoption fees vary, depending on the condition of the horse, the training, and the talents of each one. The ones who are unrestricted for any discipline, will have a larger fee. The higher fees for the more talented horses subsidize those horses with physical limitations or restrictions.
The lucky owners who are approved by our Adoption Committee to adopt a TROTT horse are gaining a valuable, talented athlete and partner who has been given a new set of skills for life beyond the track. Please check out our adoption process, and send in the pre-adoption form to get ready for your perfect match!
Once you take your TROTT horse home, our professional trainers remain an accessible resource for you--that’s right--you can call any time!
