TROTT History

TROTT (Training Racehorses Off The Track) was launched January 2010, and as a 501(C)(3) nonprofit, owners can donate their retiring horses.

These high quality Thoroughbreds are typically 2-6 years old, and many sold for $60K- $350K as yearlings. Once they retire from an injury, or just from lack of speed, TROTT is there to ready them for adoption with a lot of loving R&R.

Itʼs a lucky owner who gets to adopt a TROTT horse!

TROTT Beginnings

After volunteering for 2 years with several Thoroughbred rescue groups in Southern California, Bonnie met Beryl, and together they decided to form a nonprofit that would operate with the highest ethics and integrity, as a resource to the racing industry.

In June 2010, TROTT partnered with the Teddy Cole Foundation to help all horses who directly leave the track with no sponsorship. TROTT is helping to fulfill Teddy Coleʼs mission of no horse forgotten, as TCF is helping to fulfill TROTTʼs mission.

Through being a resource to trainers and owners who have a retiring racehorse, TROTT prepares them for a new career in the sport horse industry, or to be someoneʼs favorite trail horse.

TROTT is also very appreciative to Zenyattaʼs connections for their support. We sell Zenyatta items, and limited edition Zenyatta T shirts, known as Z-Shirts, in order to help the retiring horses. All proceeds benefit the TROTT horses.

We are so proud to have watched firsthand as Zenyatta continues to make racing history!

TROTT Mission

TROTT (Training Racehorses Off The Track) provides at risk racehorses with opportunities for new careers beyond the track.

Through networking with the California racing industry, training facilities, and farms, TROTT provides at risk racehorses with opportunities for new careers beyond the track.

In working to ensure solid futures for ex-racehorses in approved non-race homes, TROTT offers R&R to retiring racehorses in need. TROTT will serve as a safety net for all track horses needing emergency placement, including pony horses, brood mares, and the unraced.
